Liposuction

Liposuction is also called liposculpture, liposuction, lipoplasty and currently lipolysis; is performed frequently between men and women to remove fat deposits in certain areas of the body (face, neck, arms, trunk, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles). To perform a Lipoesculpture some thin suction tubes called cannulas are used in order to be inserted through small incisions to where the fat is. A vacuum is applied through a hose that is connected to the cannula and this takes out the fat out of the body.

The fatty deposits in the body are intended to reserve energy and protect bony prominences. These are distributed in a pattern that is genetically predetermined. In general women get more peripheral fat accumulation; that is, they accumulate fat in the hip and abdomen. In the android pattern, in men, fat deposition occurs inside the abdomen.

Variations of liposuction technique:

  • Vasser Liposuction or Ultrasound

  • Laser Liposuction or Lipolisis

  • Lipomatic liposculpture or Infrasound

It is important to inform the plastic surgeon about drug use (contraceptives, aspirin, thyroid hormone substitution, etc.), also on diseases (phlebitis in the legs, digestive disorders, recent flu-like states, endocrine disorders or general health etc.) which can influence the procedure. If you have decided to undergo surgery, your plastic surgeon will give a series of pre-surgical instructions about food you should consume, avoiding alcohol and some drugs.
