Otoplasty

Otoplasty is the surgery performed to reposition prominent ears to a more normal position, more attached to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Generally, it is a surgery that is performed on children between 7 and 14 years. The ears are almost completely grown at the age of seven. So the sooner surgery is performed, the less embarrassment the child will suffer at school. Otoplasty can also be performed in adults, with no greater risk at a certain age. It is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia.

Usually this ear surgery requires incisions in the back of the ear but can be made incisions or approaches in the front. This allows exposure of the ear cartilage for modification with relaxations incisions and / or placement of attachment points.

This surgery can be done under local or general anesthesia surgery lasting 2 to 4 hours.

Otoplasty or ear surgery aims to change the position of the ear with respect to the skull but it is important to allow enough separation to allow cleaning and wearing glasses comfortably.

It is important to inform your plastic surgeon about daily or frequent drug use (anti-inflammatory, aspirin, health food recipes etc.) And do not forget to refer recent illnesses or flu-like states that can influence the procedure. If you have decided to undergo surgery, it is important to plan a disability period in order to use the corresponding bandages.
